March for Our Lives

The March for Our Lives is now allowed to take place in Washington DC by the National Park Service. Two days after a Texas school was shot to death, the event will be held in Washington DC. David Hogg, one of the shooting survivors, founded the March for Our Lives and has organized sister marches in 45 states. The movement focuses on gun control. The organizers say they want "to make our communities safer."

Student activists

Students took control of the country on Saturday by organizing marches, and calling on politicians to adopt new gun laws. The March for Our Lives marked their first act as political activists and was the start of a new political awakening. Although lawmakers have ignored the students' demands, the protests have sparked new discussion. What can we do to stop gun violence from happening in the future?

Florida lawmakers

The Republican-led Florida legislative session is entering its final week. There is a gun control drive underway. The goal of the gun control drive is to unseat Republican lawmakers, who have accepted campaign donations from NRA and voted against gun-control legislation. Florida has been opposed long to gun-control measures. It currently holds a low number of concealed weapons permit. It also has strict laws about "stand your Ground" and other issues that could result in a gun massacre. NRA gave the state's current gun laws an "F" grade. However, Florida's governor has an "A-plus" rating and most legislators receive an "A-minus" or higher.

Stoneman Douglas High School students

Florida shooting survivors inspired teenagers to organize March for Our Lives to end gun violence. The march, which took place on March 24, 2013, was focused on federal background check for firearm sales. Although a House bill was passed last month, the Senate remains undecided. Although March for Our Lives might not have achieved its goal yet the students are making sure their voices are heard.
