Ernest Hemingway (a writer and lover giant marlins) spent his winters at Key West in Florida fishing for these enormous creatures. Millions of people around the globe enjoy hunting as their main form of recreation.

Jim Corbett

While he was an avid hunter and a member of the British Royal family, Jim Corbett spent most of his life in India, living among the poor people of the Himalayan foothills and labourers of Mokameh Ghat. He served as an officer in the Bengal and Northwestern Railway and was employed by the railway company from late 1890s until the start of the First World War. Jim Corbett wrote many books, in addition to his hunting adventures.

Corbett, a former Oak Openings School student, was an expert hunter who also had a flair for tracking. Corbett was only 18 years old when he decided to quit school and work for the Bengal and North Western Railway. Corbett was enlisted by the government to help kill the Champawat tigers in Nepal. Corbett was successful in his mission and the tiger died in the jungle. Corbett, while hunting, was also able raise awareness and give lectures about conservation of wildlife.

Cody Hemingway

American hunters have made some of the most iconic hunter names in history, including Buffalo Bill Cody. Buffalo Bill was a well-known buffalo runner, who killed over 4000 bison during his career. He was also known for his hunting skills. He was first American to shoot a Buffalo with a trapdoor Springfield Model 1866. He beat out Henry repeaters in a shooting competition. Despite these accomplishments, buffalo hunting today is not allowed.

While in Wyoming, Ernest Hemingway once stayed at the Chamberlin Inn in Cody. He traveled to the town with his son Jack and his second wife Pauline. He then decided to visit Cody's L Bar T ranch. While staying at the inn the current owners discovered a signed registry in the basement. Hemingway Suite was also a room that the current owners named after him.

St. George Littledale

Legend has it, that St. George Littledale once hunted the Canadian Arctic tur. Littledale became frustrated by the misty mountains that covered the area and stopped him seeing the tur. Littledale waited with his companions for Littledale each morning to return to the camp. However, they couldn't locate the tur because of the mist. They eventually found the tur on a high mountain ledge. Littledale and the guide had been waiting for them ever since the early hours of morning. Littledale had already gotten up at two a.m. to find the tur and returned home by 8.30 p.m.

St. George Littledale, despite being a famous hunter, never killed a Wolf. He couldn't kill the wolf and had to return to camp. However, this did not stop him from writing about wolves. He didn't know that the ram was so dangerous, nor how hunters could survive under such circumstances. Littledale's life stories are also featured in the book. Littledale's Arctic trip inspired the book and his love for animals.
